Our story of grief, resilience, and hope

Parents Healing Together was born out of profound personal loss and an unwavering commitment to ensure no grieving parent or caregiver in Chicago has to walk the path of trauma alone.

Born from a mother's deepest sorrow

Founded by Cynthia Green, a mother of eight, Parents Healing Together arose from unimaginably deep pain. Cynthia endured the devastating loss of two sons to gun violence and navigated the life-altering reality of having another son permanently paralyzed. Through her ongoing journey, she realized that while public efforts often address violence prevention, families are often left alone to navigate the emotional, psychological, and financial aftermath of sudden tragedy.

Filling a vital gap in healing

Gun violence leaves lasting trauma across whole households and communities. Parents Healing Together creates a safe, dedicated haven where families find practical understanding rather than isolation. We provide peer mentoring, mental health referrals, structured grief education, and resource navigation, serving at least 75 parents and caregivers in our community during our very first year.

Building a sustainable circle of care

Healing requires ongoing connection. Through regular monthly support groups, educational wellness workshops, and community healing gatherings across Chicago, we ensure parents have long-term spaces to share their grief and regain strength. Together, we honor the memories of our loved ones by uplifting each other toward renewed hope and holistic recovery.

"After losing my sons and caring for my paralyzed child, I knew our community needed a sanctuary where parents could grieve openly, hold each other up, and rebuild hope together."
